Letting the Image Tell the story
Where the novice eye sees “everyday life” I see innovative images. With my camera, like a painter with his brush, I capture that specific moment when the subject and light come together. I preserve the heart of the moment. Where others see everyday life, I see extraordinary stories. My goal is to capture iconic images.
Great images don’t just happen. An unforgettable photograph combines multiple elements. Twenty years in the magazine industry have sharpened my photographic and creative skills. Observing the moment, and taking in the elements, such as the quality of the light and where it falls, all are factors that contribute to that final image. Combined with my technical and innovative creativity, the end result becomes an unforgettable iconic image.
My love and passion for photography began at an early age. I used to sit and watch the way the light came in through the window, see how it changed through the day, the direction, the warmth, and the cold, the way it was so alive. And how it affected your mood.
My goal is to preserve that defining image. It’s the one that captures the joy on the face of a child playing hide & seek or the one that preserves the passion of the conductor as he leads his musicians in concert. My images make an emotional connection with the viewer.
I shoot with the eye of a photojournalist and work quickly and quietly to get the shot “in camera”. In all photographic settings, whether it’s a large scale social or corporate event, a life-style portrait, an anniversary, a photo story or shooting editorial & stock images, I make people feel comfortable, both in front of and away from, the camera. I am there to capture the event, not to control it. My key focus is to chronicle the event in a way that can be told in one image or, woven together, as a series of images to become a photo story.
